Nancy Drew® in Books Sightings: Classic
Nancy Drew
Nancy Drew® Classic Series: Grosset & Dunlap News:
A new repackaging of The Secret of the Old Clock is out and has been found at Barnes and Noble and Borders book
stores. Also, at Barnes and Noble online. Thanks to
Kim for the photos of the book! It has a dust jacket overlay.
Grosset & Dunlap put together a great Nancy Drew® kit for retailers--features a neat activity book that includes great memory cards and a fun word
puzzle. Also buttons featuring the fingerprint/silhouette image of Nancy from The Sleuth Book and the slogan, "Everything is Evidence." This will be a hard to find kit!
A reprinting of the classic Nancy Drew Sleuth Book, Nancy Drew Pocketbook Mysteries, and
The Lost Files of Nancy Drew are shown above. Also a gem from the 2005 75th anniversary: promotional poster.
From the publisher:
"If it's classic Nancy Drew® you're looking for then you're going to love the three books that Grosset & Dunlap is
publishing in May 2007. One is a reissue of an old favorite-The Nancy Drew Sleuth Book-updated and revised with a
beautiful new cover. Another-Nancy Drew Pocketbook Mysteries-is a fashionable repackaging of The Secret of the
Old Clock
and The Hidden Staircase, the two books that started it all. Last but definitely not least, we have The Lost
Files of
Nancy Drew-a behind-the-scenes look at the history and mystery of Nancy Drew® as told by Nancy Drew!®
This beautiful,
keepsake book has an elegant padded cover with embossed foil stamping, lamination, and a lenticular. And there are
ingenious novelty elements throughout the book, such as lift-the-flaps, pull tabs, envelopes and letters, and so much
more. A celebration of the original super sleuth, The Lost Files of Nancy Drew is a must-have for every fan."
If you are familiar with the Pirateology or Egyptology books, this is the format for the Lost Files
book.
Grosset & Dunlap currently reprints the classic Nancy Drew Mystery Stories® series,
volumes
1-56. They have now licensed the paperback stories from Simon & Schuster and will be
reprinting them in
sets of 8 in the yellow spine glossy picture cover format. In April 2005, they released the first set of 8: volumes
57-64 in the flashlight picture cover
format. There are no plans at this time to print anymore of the digest paperback texts, but in the future, anything is possible!
In October 2005, they reprinted the
Nancy Drew Cookbook and a set of Nancy Drew® Mad Libs.
Below are previews of the new covers. (Thanks Jim!)

Grosset & Dunlap has just issued 2 Collector editions, "The Best of Nancy Drew® Classic
Collection." These are 3-in-1 editions. Volume 1 includes, The Secret of the Old Clock, The
Bungalow Mystery, and The Mystery of the 99 Steps. Volume 2 includes, The
Hidden Staircase, The Ghost of Blackwood Hall, and The Thirteenth Pearl. One thing to
note, Thirteenth Pearl is missing one internal illustration which would have been page 155 of
the original or flashlight editions. The frontispieces have also been left out. These are nice matte
books that appear sturdy and the spines have nice images of Nancy. Shown above is a set of 6 Grosset & Dunlap
new issues with a new bookmark. These have been spotted at Costco stores.
Digest Paperback Nancy Drew® News
Found remaindered at Borders bookstores, are 3-in-1 paperback sets but in a hardcover version:
Features the following stories: The Bike Tour Mystery, The Riding Club Crime, and Werewolf in a Winter
Wonderland.
This was an edition specially printed for Sweetwater Press by Simon & Schuster, that apparently wasn't going to be for sale to the general public, but now they
are being remaindered. This may turn out to be a hard to find collectible! You can also find them at
Books A Million online! It has a copyright/printing date of October 2004. Thanks to Paul Mular for providing the scan of the
book and a copy!
The Classic series came to an end with volume #175, in November 2003.
Existing
volumes in print will be allowed to stay in print as long as demand allows, then will go out of print. So,
if you are missing any volumes, better stock up now!

A brief synopsis of Werewolf in a Winter
Wonderland:
Things are hairy in River Heights this holiday season. Two wolves have disappeared from WildWolf, the federal wolf preserve just outside of town. Local farmers think the missing wolves are killing their sheep, but there are also rumors of werewolf sightings nearby. At the same time, the annual River Heights Winter Carnival is set to begin. When the first two days of the outdoor festival are full of tragic disasters, Nancy can't help but wonder -- is there a link between the carnival's trouble and the missing wolves?
After the carnival's beautiful ice palace is destroyed, Nancy's sure there's a wolf at River Heights's door. But is the leader of this pack of crimes human, or beast?
To date, in the new style of cover with Nancy looking through the magnifying glass, the
following titles
have been re-done with this cover:
- volume #79, The Double Horror of Fenley Place
- volume #83, The Case of the
Vanishing Veil
- volume #85, The Secret of Shady Glen
- volume #105, The Clue in the Antique Trunk
- volume #110, The Nutcracker Ballet Mystery
- volume #116, The Case of the Twin Teddy Bears
- volume #122, The Message in the Haunted
Mansion
- Nancy Drew Ghost Stories
This style of "Spyglass" Digest paperback began with the release of volume #160,
The Clue on the Crystal Dove.
Aladdin Imprint News:
Aladdin is now the imprint on the Digest paperbacks and also Nancy Drew® Notebooks.
The Aladdin symbol is a lamp and began being featured on digest #164,
The Mystery of the Mother Wolf at the top of the spine. Note above, the new style
that has shown up recently with a two color spine with the border
color from the cover at the bottom and top of the spine! Not many have been spotted yet in
this style so this may
be the new look or an unusual trend for some volumes. More on this below.
The books are also a little bit taller than the Minstrel Digest paperbacks were so you'll
notice the difference when you put them side by side on your shelves. The spines appear to all be coming
out in yellow and the Hardy Boys® in blue so this appears to mimic the Grosset & Dunlap picture covers.
Thanks to fellow Sleuth members and collectors for helping me keep track of the following
Aladdin styles. If you find one not on the following lists, let me know:
