Nancy Drew Digest Paperbacks, Volumes 57-175
Beginning in 1979 with volume 57, The Triple Hoax, the new Nancy Drew books after volume 56 began
to be published as digest size paperbacks with a new publisher, Simon & Schuster. Some of the books
were available in limited areas and in libraries as hardbacks with dust jackets up through volume 78.
Many of these volumes are no longer in print but are rather plentiful at used bookstores, antique
malls, and online at eBay.com.
Over the years the imprints on the books went from Wanderer to Minstrel to the current imprint, Aladdin.
These volumes are considered part of the classic Mystery Stories series and as a testament to
longevity, this classic series was in print for 73 years. In late 2003, the classic series
ended with volume 175, Werewolf in a Winter Wonderland. A new series featuring
your tried and true Nancy and her chums debuted in 2004:
Nancy Drew: Girl Detective. This new series
is an attempt to refocus the series with its classic formula still in place but
add richness to the characters which
has been lacking for some time.
Over the years the paperbacks have undergone artwork changes. Volumes with more than one
cover art to collect include: 57-80, 83, 85, 87, 89, 90, 105, 110, 116, and 122. Some of these
have up to three
different covers as shown by the example of Triple Hoax below:

The 100th volume, A Secret in Time was a nice collectible in that it related back to
the first mystery, The Secret of the Old Clock. The Crowley Clock that Nancy received
as a reward for solving that mystery becomes involved in the new mystery.
