Circa 1962, the yellow spine picture covers were also issued as book club editions. As shown above
with volume 27, The Secret of the Wooden Lady, the back cover was solid yellow with no images or
title lists and the spine had no volume number. Inside it was noted as a book club edition. Another
identifying feature is that the top closed page edges were not inked, they were plain.
Only the
first 32 volumes were issued as book club editions and the higher numbered volumes are much harder
to find than the lower numbered volumes. All the editions were the original texts except for volumes 1-4, 6, and 7 which
were the revised texts.
Volume 32, The Scarlet Slipper Mystery, is the
hardest to find. Volume 11, The Clue in the Broken Locket, is also a nice find--not
only as a book club edition but especially as it features the harder to find third cover
art featuring the pipe smoking man. Both are shown below.

If anyone has any memorabilia from the book club editions such as advertisements, membership cards, etc., I would love to hear more about it. E-mail me here.
